Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – Halima Ali Maiyanga, one of the many Chibok girls taken by Boko Haram in 2014, was able to escape the group just last week. She was able to call her family on Thursday Night while she was with the military. According to Halima, she was one of hundreds who was able to escape when the military conducted an operation in the Sambisa Forest. “Halima was in tears. She told us she was with the military and needed some clothes because she had nothing,” her brother Muhammad Maiyanga told the Wall Street Journal. “We never thought we’d see her again.”

This is the first Chibok girl to be freed in more than a year. According to some sources, there may have been even more girls from Chibok in the group that was freed, but this has not been confirmed by any official sources yet.

Halima’s freedom means that there may still be hope for the other girls who are still in captivity. This even includes girls like Leah Sharibu who was taken in 2018. This means hope for families who thought that they would never see their children again. Please continue to pray for the many girls who are still missing and for their families.

HOW TO PRAY: Pray for Halima as she recovers from her traumatic years in captivity. Pray for the girls who are still being held captive by Boko Haram, for their safety and for their chance to escape. Pray for the families of the missing girls.
