Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – A security report released on Monday by the Chairman of the LGA stated that militant Fulani Herdsmen invaded Gwer West Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state, killing four civilians and abducting one.
Sections of the report read as follows:
“On Saturday, May 15, 2021, at about 5 pm armed Fulani militia attacked Tse Shishim village…. According to two survivors of the attack, three of them went to their village to take some food for their families who are taking refuge at Naka. The armed Fulanis on sighting them started pursuing them with AK-47 guns and cutlasses.
Two of them ran and escaped narrowly while 35-year-old Terhemba Shishim was killed by the attackers. Security agencies on receiving the reports combed the village the following morning but the body of the deceased could not be found, except his footwears and other belongings which were found in a nearby bush in the village.
Similarly, yesterday May 16, 2021, armed Fulani militia again between 2 pm and 7 pm simultaneously launched attacks on Tse Iber village in Jimba settlement area, the attackers killed 28-year-old Teryila Agbe and 40-year Torloko Adamu.”
This attack is just one of many that have claimed the lives of thousands of Christians in the past decade. The widespread attacks have been classified by some as normal historical conflicts over land rights, while others are assured that these attacks constitute pure jihad amounting to genocide. No matter where on this scale the attacks fall, they are atrocious, wrong, and the government in Nigeria must do more to end this continuing issue.
HOW TO PRAY: Pray for peace for those who lost loved ones in this attack. Pray for the immediate return of the kidnapped individual. Pray for an end to this conflict in central Nigeria. Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Nigeria who suffer daily for their faith.
