(Deyang, Sichuan Province—December 29, 2021) On Christmas, Yang Yufeng, wife of former elder Hao Ming, received the official arrest notice issued by Deyang Municipal Bureau of Public Security Jingyang Police Station. The notice stated:

Jingyang Police Station arrested Hao Ming who is the suspect of fraud on December 24, 2021, at 4 PM, with the approval of Jingyang District People’s Procuratorate. He is detained at Deyang Municipal Detention Centre at present.

Early Rain Covenant Church in Chengdu learned that Elder Hao Ming was officially arrested and sent out an open prayer request letter, which discloses that Elder Wu Jiannan of Early Rain Qingcaodi (Qingcaodi) might be arrested as well. That afternoon, Elder Wu Jiannan’s family received his arrest notice, too.

Police took elder Hao Ming, elder Wu Jiannan, and others to the police station on November 17. All of them were under suspicion fraud, and authorities officially detained both elders Hao Ming and Elder Wu Jiannan on November 19. The others were released one after another.

On November 30, Liu Wuyi, who is in charge of finance at Qingcaodi Church, was criminally detained. Xiang Dijuan and Lin Yan, congregants of the church, came to Deyang Municipal Bureau of Public Security to cooperate with the investigation but didn’t go home until midnight.

The positions of Elders Hao Ming and Wu Jiannan were set out of Qingcaodi’s congregation poll. Everyone agreed that Elder Hao Ming is self-disciplined and a man of virtue. His family even opened their home so that Christians could worship there, and police did not believe his charge of fraud. It is Christians’ tradition to give offerings and tithes to church and everyone willing gives offerings and tithes regardless of pastors, elders, coworkers, and lay believers. It is the requirement in the Bible that a small portion of the offerings should be given to ministers, and the big part of offerings are used to help poor Christians. Authorities gave such a selfless elder the fabricated charge of “fraud”, which is absurd.
