Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – A spokesperson for the UN reported that more than 30 fishermen and farmers were killed in a terrorist attack by Boko Haram in Borno State last Friday.
The attack took place in the village of Dikwa, close to the Sambisa forest, a known Boko Haram stronghold and hideout.
Most of the Boko Haram activity remains concentrated in northern Nigeria, where they have maintained an insurgency for 13 years. Now split into two factions, Boko Haram seems to be making a comeback after its territory was significantly reduced in 2015, the year it pledged allegiance to Islamic State and created the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP). Boko Haram soldiers, largely forced out of northern Nigeria, entered the lake Chad Basin where weak governance has enabled them to regain strength.
HOW TO PRAY: Pray for an end to Boko Haram-led violence. Pray for peace and comfort for those who lost loved ones in this attack. Pray for greater protection for Nigeria’s vulnerable populations. Please pray for the families of those who were killed during these attacks and for the safety of Nigerians living in extreme violence. Pray that the Nigerian government would be wise in dealing with terrorists and that this insurgency will end.
