Iran (MNN) — Protestors gathered recently in Tehran to remember an activist killed by security forces. Then, authorities launched chemical attacks on several all-girl schools in response.
This wasn’t the first time. Repeated poisonings alarm human rights groups; how far will Iran’s leaders go for revenge? Mayra* with Heart4Iran says the Iranian people won’t let anything stop them.
“It is very important to understand that this is a revolution. This is a young generation revolution against an oppressive regime that has taken our country hostage for 44 years,” she explains.
“It is not only about wearing or not wearing headscarves. It is not only about the economy. It is about the entire system.”
Nationwide protests gained global attention last September following the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody. Today, “the revolution is in its new phase; people are confronting the regime by civil disobedience,” Mayra says.
Despite a harsh new hijab law and surveillance threats, “women are taking their scarves off,” she continues.
“When women are attacked by the regime agents and plain clothes [agents], men [defend] them. Men are intervening and supporting the women.”
Heart4Iran’s trauma team offers the hope and healing of Christ to brokenhearted people throughout Iran. Heart4Iran also empowers women to reach their God-given potential. Learn how you can help here.
Most importantly, pray. “Pray for a free Iran,” Mayra requests.
“Pray that people can take their country back so they can practice all kinds of freedoms: freedom of speech, religion, freedom of belief.”
