With Christmas just a few days away, let’s take a moment to pause. Our thoughts are with those who are particularly vulnerable at this time of year.

Sudan was a hostile place for religious minorities even before the war began. But this year, Christmas will be marked amid a humanitarian crisis that is reaching catastrophic levels. It is the largest internal displacement crisis in the world.

Please pray for those who have been forced to flee, both internally and to neighbouring countries like Egypt.

People fleeing fighting within Sudan run the risk of being accused of supporting one side of the war or the other – even if they have no affiliation.

Those arriving from areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), are accused by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) of being RSF fighters. People living in areas controlled by the RSF may not be able to leave in the first place as their attempts to flee will be seen as evidence of supporting SAF.

Both parties are responsible for violations that the UN says may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Both must be held to account.

  • Please pray:
  • For a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire in Sudan.
  • That the RSF and SAF would stop their targeted attacks on civilians and places of worship.
  • For the protection of civilians and effective delivery of humanitarian assistance.
  • For shelter, refuge, protection and provision for those who have been forced from their homes in Sudan, and elsewhere around the world.
  • That the presence of the Lord would surround and uplift Christians who may be at greater risk at Christmas.

Prince of Peace, your kingdom will never pass away. Make a way for peace on earth, even where there seems to be no way. Bring justice, even where this seems impossible. Shine your everlasting light into the darkest places, this Christmastime and always. Amen.
