What is Our Response to War and Conflict in the Congo?

Insecurity is at alarming levels in the DRC
Reuters reported in late February that Judith Suminwa, the prime minister of the DRC, told the Human Rights Council in Geneva that 7,000 people have died in her country in the first two months of 2025 and approximately 3,000 of the deaths occurred in Goma. Further, about 450,000 people have no shelter because militants destroyed 90 displacement camps in the DRC. They are stranded on roads throughout the region. The dire humanitarian situation has worsened since the displacement. The Council on Foreign Relations notes that the displacement crisis in the DRC is second only to Sudan's. "It is impossible to describe the screams and cries of millions of victims of this conflict," Suminwa said. Read more here.

Global Appeal to Pray for Burma

Camp fatigue in Burma
Ashley South, who has been involved in events in Myanmar as an observer and participant in events for nearly thirty years, recently wrote a country overview in the Global Day of Prayer for Burma guide. Here are excerpts: “Four years after the February 2021 coup, Burma is in deep crisis. The illegal and illegitimate State Administrative Council (SAC) junta has committed widespread and systematic war crimes, including hundreds of airstrikes on civilian communities, with over 1000 casualties in Karen areas alone (including scores of children). As a result of the Myanmar Army and proxy forces attacks on civilians, there are over 3 million internally displaced people in the country, with over 1 million in the Karen free state of Kawthoolei. Read more here.

Reflections on Don Kroah's Ministry and Legacy in Faith-Based Media

In October of 1997, WAVA-FM/Arlington began airing a new evening talk program called The Don Kroah Show. It would become one of the longest-running local Christian talk shows in the DC market—27 years, with national syndication in the later years.

Don was particularly committed to raising awareness for the persecuted church around the world. In a 2021 article published by Baptistpress.com, he remarked, "The persecuted church in general has been a passion of mine ever since I’ve been in the ministry but especially coming to the Washington area with such a big platform to speak to that issue. We have a profound obligation to the suffering church.” Read more here.

Religious Persecution is Part of Russia’s Battle Plan

Ukraine Church
Three years ago, Russia launched its brutal invasion of Ukraine, triggering a humanitarian catastrophe. Russian President Vladimir Putin invoked religion as part of his justification, believing that their shared Orthodox Christian history lent credibility to his imperial ambitions. But Ukrainians begged to differ. Their courage, combined with U.S. and European support, has thus far prevented Putin from erasing Ukraine from the map.

Compared to the former Soviet Union, Ukraine stands out as a model of religious pluralism. The Ukrainian government has protected space where faith can be freely expressed without fear of repression.  Ukraine looks more like the United States in its approach to religious freedom than it does Russia. Read more here.
