HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERED LIFE
ACTS 1:8 “But you will receive power when the HOLY SPIRIT comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The Greek word for “power” is dunamis. The Analytical Lexicon of the Greek New Testament
with reference to Acts 1:8 defines it as being able to produce a strong effect – power, might, strength.” And “as supernatural manifestations of power miracles, wonder, a powerful deed.” This word is used 10 times in the Book if Acts and always refers to GOD’s mighty power, miracles, signs and wonders. It never refers to our strength or ability but rather to His power working through us. His power alone keeps us, energizes us, and transforms us to be like CHRIST as we glorify Him. For in Him we live and move and have our being!
Another word I want you to appreciate is the word...“WITNESSES.” This is where we get the word “martyr.” Every Born-again SPIRIT-filled follower of JESUS is expected to be a living martyr —someone who is dead to the carnal nature (flesh, self), someone who denies himself of the things of this world, someone who believes like the apostle Paul, “I have been crucified with CHRIST and I no longer live, but CHRIST lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of GOD, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”(Galatians 2:20).
As Christians, we have the power and the presence of the HOLY SPIRIT! And we should always be pointing to JESUS CHRIST when signs, wonders and healings take place. It is the incredible power of the SPIRIT that enables us and sets us up to do the works of JESUS CHRIST! We are EMPOWERED to be His WITNESSES!
