Save The Persecuted Christians Joins #SilentSlaughter Campaign
What a productive week for Save the Persecuted Christians!
Save the Persecuted Christians is pressing the Trump administration to appoint a presidential envoy to Nigeria and the Lake Chad region.
Last week, Save the Persecuted Christians attended the International Religious Freedom (IRF) Roundtable, met with members of Congress, spoke at the #SilentSlaughter press conference, and ended the week by sitting down with Ambassador at Large for Global Criminal Justice, Ambassador Morse Tan.
At the IRF Roundtable, we were given the opportunity to speak on behalf of the 60,000 mostly Christian Nigerians killed since 2001 to members of USCIRF and Ambassador for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback. Myself, and several coalition partners, spoke powerfully on the urgent need for the appointment of a U.S. presidential envoy to Nigeria and the Lake Chad region.
Thus far in 2020, over 350 Nigerians have been killed and many, many more have been abducted. That’s an average of 50 deaths a week and 7-8 a day. The victims are mostly Christian women, children, elderly and faith leaders. The girls and women are frequently sexually abused, trafficked and brutally converted to Islam. Men are killed outright, and young boys are forced to become soldiers for the terrorists.
The international community has turned a blind eye and is mum on this rapidly developing crisis with dire consequences for African Christians, the international community and US interests.
But, good news, you can help make a difference for the Nigerian community and all those afflicted by persecution due to their faith. Join us in writing letters to the editor and by contacting your elected officials, especially at the federal level but locally too. By lending your voice to the voiceless Christian victims of slaughter in Nigeria, you can demand that more be done to end the silence. At a national press club event (livestream video), Save the Persecuted Christians joined our coalition partner, the International Committee on Nigeria (ICON), in asking President Donald Trump to appoint a presidential envoy to Nigeria and the Lake Chad region. This person would be granted presidential authority to act above the fray of varied embedded special interests within the U.S. State Department and to assist Secretary Mike Pompeo, rapidly and formidably, to address the ongoing crisis that threatens to implode on a scale even greater than that of the Rwanda genocide.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank some of our nearly 200 coalition partners, who we work in lockstep with on a daily basis, and who have contributed significantly to raising the alarm on the silent genocide of Christians in Nigeria.
