‘He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.’ (Psalm 91:4)

There is no doubt we are living in difficult times, but we hold fast to the knowledge that God has promised to cover us with his feathers, and that under his wings we will find refuge.

We are about to enter Holy Week, one of the most sacred times in the Christian calendar. If you are one of those who finds themselves with more time on their hands, could I ask you to commit to praying for Burma every day this week?  Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced by violence across the country, and you’ve been praying for them for years. Now they need your prayers more than ever.

These communities, including many ethnic and religious minorities such as the predominantly Christian Chin and Kachin people, and Rohingya Muslims, are already at risk simply because they live in a country whose government abuses their human rights. But factors such as overcrowding in the camps where most of them live, lack of access to clean water, a mobile internet shutdown, lack of medical supplies and equipment, and blocks on humanitarian aid, could make them especially vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government of Burma claims that there have been only a few cases inside its borders, but the true number is likely to be much higher, due to the country’s weak health care system and a lack of testing.

In summary, please pray:

  • For God to spread his protective wings across all ethnic and religious minorities in Burma, including the predominantly Christian Chin and Kachin people, and Rohingya Muslims.
  • That the government would allow international aid organisations such as the Red Cross to access the camps for people who have fled violence.
  • That vital medical supplies and equipment would reach those who need them most.
