Moldova (MNN) — Moldova shuffles its government to beef up national security after Russia threatens to make it the “next Ukraine.”
“[Moldova is] getting a lot of pressure from Russia; they’re fearful that they will be invaded as well,” Greg Yoder of Keys for Kids Ministries says.
“80- to 90 percent of the people in Moldova would like to join the European Union. However, if [that happened], you can only imagine how Russia would respond.”
Russia allegedly plans to turn Europe’s poorest nation into a puppet state. Moldova discovered the plot with help from neighboring Ukraine and described its details in a briefing yesterday.
The revelation follows meetings last week pairing Moldovan leaders with the United States and NATO.
“Will Russian aggression move into Moldova? The people on the ground don’t think so. They (Russians) already have their hands pretty full in Ukraine,” Yoder says.
However, “we know what Putin’s tendencies are. He took over Crimea and attempted to invade Ukraine; he has expressed [his] intention to restore the former Soviet Union.”
We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but we know the One who holds our world in His hands. “Pray that God would, through the Holy Spirit, work in the hearts of President Putin and others; that there would be peace,” Yoder requests.
Help Keys for Kids Ministries bring hope to refugee and Moldovan families through its devotionals for kids and teens. Many Moldovans are bilingual in the Romanian and Russian languages.
“We have more Russian devotionals to help in this type of situation than we do in Ukrainian,” Yoder says.
“In times like this, people are more open to hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ.”
