Burkina Faso (International Christian Concern)—Jihadists killed 15 people Monday in eastern Burkina Faso, according to the French Press Agency (AFP).
Attacks from Islamic extremists in the country have been on the rise. The attack comes four days after 12 civilians were killed by suspected jihadists in the western part of the country, and five days after 20 people were killed in a separate attack in the eastern region. In addition, last Monday, 11 people were killed.
Since 2015, militant attacks linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS in Burkina Faso have been on the rise. The violence seen in Burkina Faso is part of a broader trend of jihadism which has displaced 2.3 million people in West Africa’s Sahel region.
As of 2023, the country has not been successful in curbing the spread of violence and still struggles with one of the bloodiest jihadist insurrections in the Sahel. The violence and unrest have created the worst humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso’s history. According to the United Nations, one in five citizens—roughly 4.7 million people—are currently in need of humanitarian assistance.
HOW TO PRAY: Pray for the violence in the Sahel to be curbed. Please continue to pray for Burkina Faso and the end of Islamic extremism. Pray for those who engage in horrendous crimes against humanity, that they will experience the love of Jesus and be guided from darkness to light. Please also pray for the Lord to protect and strengthen the persecuted church and to provide healing to all those affected by violence. Pray for comfort for those who lost loved ones during this attack. Pray for the gospel to spread throughout Burkina Faso.
